Eco Tour with Peter<\/h3>\n<p>Today I will meet Peter, the General Manager of the resort for an eco tour. We start with\u00a0the staff village which is located in the middle of the island\u00a0and is home to the staff from different cultures. Usually they go home\u00a0every two years, most of them have families in their home country.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpearls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/DSC077471.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6251\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpearls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/DSC077471-1024x575.jpg\" alt=\"SONY DSC\" width=\"711\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From there we have a look at the laundry, bakery and the room where the drinking water is bottled. Sustainability on an island? Reethi Beach\u00a0bottles\u00a0their own drinking water in re-usable glass bottles,\u00a0which saves since August 2010 over 400 disposable plastic bottles every day. Reethi Beach grows\u00a0all herbs and some vegetables in the garden, which is lovely to walk through and guests are being invited to stroll around. All waste, despite wet waste,\u00a0has to be taken to a special island for waste, where recyclable garbage like Aluminum is being shipped and sold to India.\u00a0\u00a0Reethi Beach has developed an unique system for recycling and re-use\u00a0focusing on raising awareness among staff and local communities. Recyclable materials are segregated and compacted for shipping.\u00a0plastic\u00a0waste is transported to Male\u00a0where Reethi Beach works\u00a0with a small company set up by\u00a0a\u00a0Maldivian\u00a0Woman who recycles plastic and\u00a0sells\u00a0\u00a0it to companies likes Adidas or Nike, who use\u00a0it for producing shoes<\/p>\n<h3>What guests can do to help preserving this paradise<\/h3>\n<p>In order to help the resorts, avoid increasing the amount of waste and take your waste like plastic, aluminum, batteries back. While still admiring the different blue\u00a0and turquoise colors of the sea, I am amazed seeing little Lime sharks\u00a0swimming\u00a0between\u00a0the stills, hunting for food and enjoying themselves in the soft waves, carrying them to the beach and back. It is a touching eperience\u00a0to watch\u00a0those animals with such a bad reputation, playing and hunting. After I\u00a0have picked\u00a0up my snorkeling equipment at Sea Explorer, the dive school, together with some good advice on where to snorkel and currents in the sea, I am ready to explore\u00a0the underwaterworld.\u00a0My trip starts right at the water villa and takes me to the reef and on my way, I see numerous colorful fishes, right in front of me a big\u00a0turtle crosses my way. At the reef edge where the water gets deep I spot two baby sharks swimming right underneath, corals in all their bright colors and fish swarms. I am fascinated by this diversity of fishes and\u00a0corals. Everything feels so calm, slow and quiet.
