The beginning

Already the princes Stolberg knew what a special place the “Schindelbruch” is. In 1928 they established the hunting lodge “Schindelbruch”. Today the “Schindelbruch” is protected as a historic monument and serves the guests as garden café, grillrestaurant or venue.

At GDR times the house became a small holiday home for a regional company and was changed to the hotel “Harzhotel im Schindelbruch” after the Fall of the Wall.

In 2003 today’s owner, the hunting and forest society Stolberg/Harz mbH, acquired the hotel, renovated and refurbished it gradually and cautiously extended the whole property.

The owner and manager, Dr. Clemens knight of Kempski, has already dealt with sustainable forestry and the question of climate change in the 90s. Therefore, it is not surprising that this philosophy finds itself as a green thread throughout the resort and is strictly implemented.

In 2009 the hotel was awarded as the „1st climate-neutral hotel in Central Germany“, and won the land tourism prize as a “forerunner”. Today it is a much quoted example for sustainable tourism.

Munich native is the head of the Schindelbruch kitchen

The hotel catering activities of the “Naturresort Schindelbruch” are being carried out since 2014 by Markus Koindek. The Munich native Markus Koindek is responsible with his team of fifteen employees for all hotel catering activities at the four star hotel Schindelbruch.

He describes his culinary style as “refined regional down-to-earth and seasonal fresh kitchen”.

Two restaurants, two restaurant rooms, the hotel bar, the spa bistro, the garden café as well as the internal and external event areas and also the new restaurant “Jagdhaus Holzeule” is within his scope of responsibility.

The half-timbered house in the garden of the Naturresorts is the former lodge of the princes Stolberg-Stolberg. The historical-rustic ambience is used for events as well as for parties and celebrations up to 39 people. At week-ends the “Jagdhaus Holzeule” also opens for hiker guests.
