When he acquired Gut Sonnenhausen in Glonn, near Munich, eco-pioneer Georg Schweisfurth fulfilled a long-cherished dream of his. The old buildings were gently and ecologically renovated without losing their original charm. Various interior designers left their mark on different parts of the building. Connected by an overarching historical and ecological concept, the result is not a hodgepodge but a harmonious and interesting whole. Contemporary artworks and installations, carefully selected by Schweisfurth himself and constantly rearranged throughout the sustainable hotel, provide additional conversation topics. As a result, even regular guests are surprised to find familiar works in new locations.

History Meets Modernity in the over 200-year-old Farmhouse

However, Gut Sonnenhausen includes more than just the manor house; it also features a former farmhouse dating back to 1800.

Opened in 2019, the property’s 200-year history will captivate you, whether you stop by the Honesty Bar during a walk or spend the night in one of the renovated rooms, which are based on historical models and built with eco-friendly materials.

Georg Schweisfurth and his team carefully preserved old structures and used natural, historically accurate materials, such as clay plaster and wood. At the same time, the rooms feature a modern, minimalist design accented by striking, restored historic farmhouse cabinets from across Bavaria. Even before its opening in 2019, interested parties could observe the construction progress during the “architect tours.”

Naturally, art is also a focal point here. Whereas a casual, artistic, and creative atmosphere prevails in the manor house, the farmhouse exudes its own unique charm with its “rustic modernity” and harmonious elements.
