History and Milestones of the Former Monastery

The Klosterhof’s historical roots date back to the 16th century, when the building was part of the St. Zeno Augustinian monastery’s economy. The monks’ knowledge of healing from that time lives on today and is incorporated into the health services offered by the hotel. From 1860 onwards, the monastery evolved into one of the region’s first official guesthouses, later serving as a boarding school.

Converted into a small 3-star hotel with 14 rooms in 1987, the building complex was run by the Lederer family until 2011. The Färber family took over in 2011 and carefully developed the hotel further, taking history and nature into consideration.

During extensive renovation work between 2014 and 2016, the oldest part of the building was preserved and lovingly renovated. Adjoining it is a modern extension which blends gently into the natural surroundings thanks to its larch shingles and green roof. At the same time, it combines tradition (larch shingles typical of the local area) with state-of-the-art technology.

In 2016, the Klosterhof reopened as the 4-star superior Alpine Hideaway & Spa – a retreat combining history, architecture, nature, and modern technology.

Fire and Water: Pools and Soledom in the Klosterhof

The indoor pool brings together the elements of fire and water. You can swim towards a flickering and crackling fireplace and relax in this wonderful setting. Above you is the ‘Rainbow Path’, an art installation made of jute by regional artist Wolfgang Gerner, whose works also adorn the rest of the Klosterhof. The ‘Rainbow Path’ has been part of the Artemacur Spa since the Glow-Up renovation in 2025, and is intended to inspire and stimulate conversation.

Outside, the year-round heated outdoor pool offers stunning views of the Berchtesgaden Alps. The secluded location offers a good chance to spot deer while you relax by or in the pool. Holistic relaxation and weightlessness can be experienced in the Alpine Soledom. The salt water from the Bad Reichenhall spring is a treat for the body and soul alike.

Warmth and Foam: the Sauna Area at Artemacur Spa

The cozy sauna area at Klosterhof – Alpine Hideaway & Spa invites you to relax and unwind. In addition to the bio sauna made from reclaimed wood, there is an oriental steam bath in the Hammam tradition and a panorama sauna offering sweeping mountain views. Afterwards, head to the tranquil sauna garden, which has relaxation areas and natural showers, providing the perfect way to end your sauna session.

Medical Wellness and Holistic Health at the Klosterhof Artemacur Health Center

In addition to classic wellness treatments, Klosterhof also offers comprehensive medical care. Dr Andreas Färber, the hotelier, has set up the Artemacur Health Centre in an adjoining building and runs it with a colleague. With an open-minded approach and a diagnosis-based concept of medicine, the centre offers consultations, therapies, and diagnostics. Having won an award from the German Lung Foundation for his work on infectious respiratory diseases, Dr Färber is well placed to advise on the importance of a healthy lifestyle and help you break old habits. The focus is on a holistic approach, paying particular attention to the psyche and nutrition.

Accessible Rooms at the Bavarian Wellness Hotel Klosterhof

The Klosterhof has two barrier-free rooms, which feature luxurious amenities and large, accessible balconies. Both rooms have been certified by „Reisen für Alle“ (Travel for All) as suitable for guests with walking disabilities and wheelchair users (test report). With a few exceptions, all doors in the hotel are at least 90 centimetres wide, and all facilities are accessible via elevators and without steps. The tables in the rooms and restaurant are wheelchair accessible, and there are specially designated parking spaces near the entrances for convenient access to the hotel.
