The two modern log cabins, Yosemite and Yellowstone, are approximately 120 square feet. Enjoy a relaxing getaway with up to six people. History & Philosophy

The Summit Lodges were built in 2018 on land that has been owned by the Spiss family for generations and was previously used as pasture for farm animals. Through various travels, Marco Spiss was inspired by the traditional log cabin construction of the Northwest USA and Canada. Emphasis was placed on ecological construction. Sustainability was also considered in the planning of the houses. Guests should experience the nature and culture of the region in an authentic way. For the family, the unique landscape is the basis for their success and a healthy business.

  • The two blockhouses are constructed of polar spruce using traditional natural log construction.
  • The architectural model is inspired by the log homes of the northwestern United States and Canada.
  • The buildings face the sun to maximize light and minimize weathering.
  • The interior is constructed with local wood from regional companies
  • Exterior wood, such as decking, is also sourced from local forests and a local sawmill.
  • All excavated material from the construction of the houses has been reused in the garden design.
  • Half of the land, which has been in the family for generations, is still used as an animal enclosure for sheep and goats.
  • The garden is planted with native plants, flowers and trees, including fruit trees.
  • Native herbs and vegetables are grown in raised beds.
  • Pest control is done by organic means when necessary.
  • The water comes from the local spring in the Pfundser Radurschtal.
  • The garden is watered with stream water from the mountain stream directly on the property.
  • All appliances that use water are equipped with economy filters or economy buttons.
  • The showers have only a certain water pressure to avoid unnecessary consumption.
  • The houses are heated with air-source heat pumps powered by Tyrolean hydropower.
  • Energy saving light bulbs or LED bulbs are used. The exterior and interior lighting is partly equipped with time switches and motion detectors.
  • A solar system is planned for the future.
  • Waste is segregated and inspected before each trip to the recycling yard and re-sorted if necessary.
  • All organic waste is composted.
  • Personal care products are repackaged in reusable containers.
  • Care is taken to purchase locally where possible and to avoid packaging waste in shipping.
  • Staff training on environmental issues and sustainable living.
  • Ongoing training of the team by the local tourist board.
  • Guests are actively encouraged to use public transportation such as ski buses and trains.
  • Protected animal breeds such as the black-nosed sheep and the Zackel sheep are bred and protected from extinction.
  • The survival of native insects is ensured by native flora and many green areas. There are also bird feeders and bee hotels.
  • Involvement in local clubs such as the rifle club, rural youth and sports club.
  • Donations are made to associations such as the fire department, and sports events are supported through sponsorship..
