How it all started

Everything began in 1965 when Karl and Käthe Rolle discovered the today's hotel property directly at the water with a view at the volcano Teide. They decided to create a refuge for rest and relaxation. Many decades later the OCÉANO has kept its originality and through modernization has adapted to zeitgeist. Today it belongs to the leading houses in health tourism. In 1975 after ten years of construction time the first guests could check in their rooms. In 1978 a heavy storm destroyed most of the lower areas and made a complete renewal necessary. Due to this environmental disaster almost all the other hotels in Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo had to close during the coming years. In the positive this entails that this region of Tenerife remained largely original. In 1994 all rooms of the OCÉANO were completley renovated. The opening of the Mayr centre and the takeover of the health department by K. Matthias Rolle (doctor and owner in the 3rd generation) followed in 2001. In 2005 Dr. Jürgen Rolle handed over the management of the hotel to his son K. Matthias Rolle and his wife Mrs. Magda Coromina Roig, who further developed the sustainable philosophy of thel OCÉANO Health Spa. In 2012 the Thalasso centre and the enlarged and completely refurbished sauna area was opened.
