As an official hiking hotel in East Tyrol, Naturhotel Outside offers three guided tours per week, personalized recommendations, and a rental pool for hiking equipment. Skiing and snowshoeing

In the winter, the region transforms into a tranquil natural paradise, offering winter hiking and cross-country skiing trails. For those seeking more action, the nearby slopes in the Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei ski area offer plenty of opportunities. The ski bus stops right outside the hotel, and equipment is also taken care of: you can safely store it in your own locker at the hotel. In addition, the Naturhotel Outside offers three guided snowshoe tours per week and provides crampons, backpacks, and snowshoes for guests to borrow.

Your journey to the Hiking and Nature Hotel Outside in East Tyrol

With the guest card handed out at check-in, guests can ride most public transportation in the district for free and explore the side valleys of the national park in an eco-friendly way. In winter, the regular ski bus takes guests to the Großglockner Resort ski area in just a few minutes at no additional cost. In the summer, high-quality e-bikes are available, enabling guests to explore East Tyrol in a sustainable and active way.

By public transportation: Take the train to Lienz Central Station. From there, take the free hotel shuttle (available for direct bookings) to the hotel. If you are coming from the north, the hotel recommends taking the train to Kitzbühel Station and then taking the direct bus to Matrei (line 950x) from there. Alternatively, you can book a pickup in Kitzbühel for an additional charge.
By car: Via Kitzbühel (if you’re coming from the north) or Lienz (if you’re coming from the south). Please note that the A12 highway from the Kufstein border crossing requires a vignette. The Felbertauernstraße to Matrei is subject to a toll. There are three Type 2 charging stations available on site (for a fee) and free parking.
Recommendation for your winter journey: Bring snow chains. This way, you will be prepared for all conditions. (Winter tires are mandatory!)
By plane: The nearest airports are Innsbruck and Salzburg.
