Naturhotel Outside: Re-opening of the New Wellness Area with the first Defereggen Healing Brine Bath

After extensive renovations, Naturhotel Outside will open the doors to its new wellness area on December 20, 2024. The redesigned Nature SPA sets new standards in sustainability - especially when it comes to the heated outdoor pool.

Eco-friendly Relaxation

Guests of the nature and hiking hotel in East Tyrol can look forward to an expanded wellness area. The architecture, choice of materials, and technical implementation have been designed to be environmentally friendly and to conserve resources. In addition to the heated outdoor pool and modern relaxation rooms made of local natural materials, the new brine bath with local Defereggen healing water, one of the oldest and most effective healing waters in the world, is particularly noteworthy.

The wellness area will offer the following additions from December 20, 2024:

• the first Defereggen brine bath at 35°C with 600,000-year-old healing water from St. Jakob, 30 km away
• an outdoor pool at 35 °C, which is filled as needed during off-peak hours to save energy
• energy optimized organic sauna
• spacious relaxation rooms with local natural materials
• yoga room and outdoor yoga deck for exercise in harmony with nature
• from summer 2025: redesigned SPA garden with extended natural pool and sustainable plantings

Sustainability at the Heart of the Project

The renovation focused on the conscious use of natural resources. Located in the Hohe Tauern National Park, respect for nature and the planet is deeply rooted in the philosophy of Naturhotel Outside.

Particularly noteworthy is the innovative technology of the outdoor pool, which keeps the water in the pool warm only during peak hours and stores it in a highly insulated tank below the pool during off-peak hours. In addition, the wind-protected location, the weather protection provided by a cantilevered terrace, and the deliberate avoidance of air bubbles or whirlpool technology and infinity edge contribute significantly to reducing energy consumption.

Other sustainable initiatives in the SPA area include:

• Energy-efficient building technology: Photovoltaic panels on the hotel's roof provide approximately 20% of the hotel's energy needs, helping to reduce its carbon footprint.
• Environmentally friendly materials: Local and natural building materials such as East Tyrolean " Dorfergrün" serpentine and larch wood were used for the interior.
• Water and energy saving: Hot water is stored in a highly insulated tank to prevent energy loss. In addition, rainwater is used to irrigate the garden.
• Ecologically sustainable garden: The garden is planted with native plants, which helps to promote local flora.
• Deliberate avoidance of air conditioning: External shading and special ventilation units in the building (cool-down) provide cooling
• Hardly any new soil sealing: A large portion of the annex is underground
• Regional partnership: Cooperation with the Deferegger Heilwassergesellschaft strengthens an existing regional company and creates added value for both partners. In addition, as with all its projects, the hotel worked primarily with local craftsmen.
