Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel Nominated for the 2026 Virtuoso Award

The Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel was nominated for a 2026 award from the international luxury travel network Virtuoso. The Green Pearls® partner hotel was nominated in the “Protecting the Planet” category for its “Regenerating Life in the Andean Cloud Forest of Machu Picchu” project.

This project focuses on the long-term regeneration of the original cloud forest surrounding the hotel. The area was severely degraded in the early 1970s due to logging and livestock grazing. For decades, Inkaterra has relied on conservation measures, natural regeneration, and scientifically guided management. According to Inkaterra, 317 bird species have been registered on eBird, and 372 native orchid species have been documented. Research conducted by the Inkaterra Association has also contributed to the discovery of 28 new species.

This nomination comes in the year that Inkaterra celebrates 50 years of conservation work. Through initiatives like "One Million Trees for Machu Picchu," the Peruvian company plans to expand its efforts to restore the Andean cloud forest even further.

The awards were presented on August 10 during Virtuoso Travel Week in Las Vegas as part of the enhanced "Global Stewardship" initiative. Inkaterra was also nominated for the “Planet Award,” which was ultimately awarded to andBeyond Tanzania.
