Tenerife Introduces Fee for Hiking Trails on Mount Teide
To better manage the increase in tourism and protect the sensitive natural environment, Tenerife will introduce an access fee for select hiking trails around the Teide volcano on January 1, 2026. This eco-tax is intended to help preserve the unique flora and fauna of the national park.
Fees vary depending on the route and type of hike:
The popular hiking trail No. 10, from the cable car station to the summit of Mount Teide, will cost 15 euros in the future.
Those who take the route as part of a guided tour will pay 10 euros.
For hiking trail No. 7, which starts at the foot of the mountain, the fee is €6 (or €10 on weekends).
Children, locals, and residents of the other Canary Islands are exempt from paying, but they still need to register online and book a time slot. There is an overall price cap of 25 euros per person for all hiking trails on the island.
Green Pearls® understands this decision, as the revenue will be used for nature conservation. This will enable the island to promote sustainable tourism while preserving its valuable ecosystems.
Unlike the heavily frequented tourist regions around Mount Teide, the sustainable Green Pearls® partner hotel OCÉANO Health Spa Hotel is located in the quiet north of Tenerife.
Some of the island's most beautiful hiking trails start right outside the hotel. And can be explored under the guidance of experienced guide Norberto Crespo — ideal for anyone who wants to combine nature, exercise, and relaxation.
