Thailand: Award for sustainable travel

For the twelfth time the Responsible Thailand Awards were presented by the Thai Tourism Authority (TAT). For 2020, 595 tourism companies were nominated, almost twice as many as in previous years. In total, there is one winner in each of six different categories, chosen by an international jury from the travel industry.

Outlook for the future

Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of TAT, also gave an outlook on future projects when announcing the winners: Thus, in the next year a new animal protection law is to be adopted. In addition, the number of visitors in the national parks in Thailand is limited and together with the Thai hotel federation hotels are called to do without one-way plastic and to avoid garbage.

The winners of this year's Responsible Thailand Award are:

"Marine and Nature" - Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort (for its marine research center)
"community-based tourism" - Kindred Spirit Elephant Sanctuary
"Animal welfare" - Samui Elephant Sanctuary
"Eco Lodge / Hotel" - Koh Jum Beach Villas
"Hotel" - Khaolak Merlin
"Green Steps" - Nutty's Adventures
