From the monastery estate ...
The history of the Klosterhof begins in 1500 when Augustinian monks from the St Zeno monastery in Bad Reichenhall used the farm to grow medicinal herbs alongside their food. They processed these into ointments, teas, and other remedies. This tradition is still anchored in the hotel's health orientation today.
The knowledge and, above all, the philosophy of the late medieval monks places the patient as a person at the center. Hotel owner and director of the Artemacur Health Centre, Dr Andreas Färber, still incorporates this holistic approach into the philosophy and treatments today.
Alone in wide open spaces
The former estate is tucked away from other farms in a secluded location on a plateau near Bayrisch Gmain. What once required a self-sufficient supply of food now offers those seeking relaxation the necessary distance from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Situated in a small valley and clad in larch timber shingles, both the existing building and the new construction blend into the gently undulating landscape of the plateau and the mountain panorama of the Berchtesgaden Alps.

The monks continued to run the farm until the beginning of the 19th century. After that, the monastery courtyard became one of the first hospitality establishments in the Berchtesgadener Land region thanks to the liquor license granted in 1860. Before it finally became a destination and accommodation for travelers, it was used as a boarding school between 1950 and 1987.
The Lederer family finally bought the former farmhouse and opened the Hotel Klosterhof with 14 rooms and an inn just one year later. Dr Andreas and Henrike Färber finally took over the hotel in 2011.
Transformation into a temple of wellness
After the Färber family had initially continued to run the hotel for almost two years, they closed the Klosterhof for a renovation phase that also lasted a good two years. During this time, the Klosterhof was given its current appearance. The historical, oldest part of the building was retained and a modern and energy-efficient new building was added.
The wellness hotel now offers 65 rooms and suites, including Germany's first spa lofts. A unique concept was added that combines indulgence and relaxation as well as art and culture. Works of art by contemporary artists can be found in every room. A large spa area with various pools, sauna landscape, brine bath, and massage rooms has been created. The new design is complemented by a finely tuned culinary offering that emphasizes regional and seasonal produce as well as individuality.

Today, the Alpine Hideaway is not only one of the best-known wellness hotels, but is also the first hotel in Germany to be awarded the EU Eco Label. After a long process, the strict certification, which is recognized throughout Europe, was awarded in 2022 for the hotel's comprehensive commitment to sustainability. Leisure and Relaxation - Completely Personalised
Relaxation and wellness are at the top of the to-do list on a holiday at the Klosterhof - Alpine Hideaway & Spa. Whether on a guided hike in front of the alpine panorama or during quiet laps in the indoor pool in front of the flickering open fire. Whether it's a massage or the evening GenussArt menu, which of course also comes with a vegetarian option.
In the spa lofts, you don't even have to leave your room to relax. A private whirlpool with mountain views and a sauna are available. Another special experience: the Secret Forest Dinner, an exclusive fine dining offering at a secret location. Chef Sascha Förster presents dishes created especially for the Dinner Experience and is available to answer questions and chat with the twelve participants.
Family-run and local
In addition to the well-being of the guests, the Färbers also prioritize the well-being and cohesion of the team. The personnel philosophy is based on long-term partnerships and does not use seasonal labor. "Klosterhof family" is not just a slogan, but is actively practiced. Guests can feel this too.
