Thailand's sustainable luxury resort Zeavola looks back on a successful year
"We didn't have to close during the low season last year," says Lion Imhof, General Manager of Zeavola Resort. The year 2023 has started extremely well for Zeavola on Koh Phi Phi. After investing around 443,000 $ (15 million Thai baht) in renovations and increasing staff from 70 to 153, the island resort is now in the middle of its high season and is looking forward to welcoming so many travellers.
Zeavola wins World Luxury Hotel Award
At the end of October 2022, the Green PearlsⓇ Hotel was awarded the World Luxury Hotel Award. Zeavola is the "Winner" in the "Luxury Boutique Resort" category for the Asian continent.
The World Luxury Hotel Award is a public award in which more than 300,000 travelers vote each year over a four-week period.
Zeavola has won a number of awards in the past, including "Best Sustainable Hotel Worldwide" in 2014.
Initiatives for the environment and people
Zeavola has been a valued partner of Green PearlsⓇ since its inception because of its commitment to both environmental and social sustainability in Thailand.
The Island Hotel's projects include
- Sustainable water management
- Protecting Koh Phi Phi's coral reefs (Zeavola runs a coral nursery and has replanted over 10,000 coral fragments).
- Cleaning the sea and sandy beach
- Protecting biodiversity, especially the 18 different species of birds found around the resort
- Supporting the local school of sea nomad children by providing a weekly lunch. (Sea nomads are a small ethnic minority in Thailand).
After a temporary suspension of some of the projects (in part due to the pandemic situation), the resort is now back on track with all sustainable activities.
