Travel sustainably with a guest ticket: Guest cards with mobility and additional functions promote sustainable tourism

Download

In many holiday destinations, tourists have access to so-called Visitor Passes or Guest Tickets, with which they often receive attractive discounts for swimming pools, amusement parks, museums, bicycle hire providers, ferries, or cable cars, in addition to free use of local transport.

On holiday in particular, most people have less time pressure and therefore do not use their private car. Visits to popular tourist and cultural attractions with public transport avoid the unnecessary hassle of searching for a parking space. In addition to the savings on public transport, overnight guests do not have to deal with the respective ticketing system, which can certainly be a relief and also lowers the inhibition threshold for using public transport. For some regions, the visitor passes also offer an opportunity to direct the flow of visitors and draw attention to lesser-known attractions, thereby also supporting local providers.

Bicycles can also be taken on most public transport, which extends the radius of holidaymakers and opens up completely new, sustainable activities, such as cycling and hiking tours.

Some hotels send the visitor pass by post in advance so that guests can use it to travel to their holiday destination. At best, this means that guests can do without their car altogether and travel to their holiday destination sustainably by train. More and more visitor passes are now also being digitalized and thus made even more sustainable. The types of visitor passes are as varied as the regions in which they can be used. Time to get an overview of the benefits.

The bottom line is that it is worth enquiring whether the hotel and the region offer a visitor pass or a guest card. These not only offer a variety of benefits for holidaymakers but also ensure a high standard of quality tourism at the destination. It's fantastic to be able to leave your car at your holiday destination and explore the surrounding area by bus and train. This is not only great for your wallet and the environment but also helps you to slow down and relax.
