Valuable Drinking Water – Social Commitment of the Sustainable Green Pearls® Accommodations

Download

There are many things you only appreciate once they are gone. The best example of this is access to clean and safe water. In the water-rich DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), water of the best drinking quality comes straight from the tap. According to UNICEF, however, around two billion people do not have regular access to clean water. Every year, the UN World Water Day draws attention to this fact, which at the same time encourages people in the (water)rich regions to become active themselves. As sustainable hotels, the Green Pearls® properties are very aware of their responsibility concerning this issue. In addition to water-saving measures, they also strive to reduce the imbalance.

Support for Aid Organisations

The WIR (Wasser Ist Recht / Water Is Right) Foundation from Frankfurt am Main, Germany has been in existence for over ten years and supports water projects in many disadvantaged regions of the world. This involves both clean drinking water and water for sanitation purposes. The organization regularly reports about its projects on its website

For example, a new water treatment plant was built for an orphanage in Haiti. The orphanage is home to 400 children whose drinking water was previously contaminated with bacteria. In Mombasa, Kenya, and together with the Udo Lindenberg Foundation, the public school in the poor district of Ziwa la N'Gombe provides water for more than 2,000 people through new water treatment plants.

LENI MOUNTAIN Supports WIR with Water From its Own Spring

LENI MOUNTAIN Appartements & Chalet embody luxury holidays in the Austrian Alps with direct access to winter sports and hiking areas. The water from the taps comes from the hotel's own water source and is of premium mineral water quality. The Arnold family wants to pass on this privilege and therefore donates the entire proceeds from the sale of the "Leni Mountain Spring Water" to WIR.

High-Quality Mineral Water Directly from the tap at CERVO Mountain Resort

At the Swiss Alpine Hotel CERVO Mountain Resort, people are aware of the geographical good fortune that comes from being in Zermatt. Due to the abundance of water in the winter sports region, the tap water in Zermatt consists of 100% spring water. In the hotel, the Zermatt water is filtered and, if desired, carbonated for the guests. Of the revenue from the drinking water that the hotel treats itself, 10% is also donated to Water Is Right.

Creativhotel Luise – A Member of Refill

Erlangen's Creativhotel Luise believes that tap water is the most sustainable option. As a member of Refill, passers-by are also welcome to come to the hotel at any time and fill their drinking bottles with tap water.

In the hotel rooms, guests will find upcycled water glasses made from old wine bottles and water containers are available in the wellness area. This way, guests can help themselves at any time in an environmentally friendly way.

Weihrerhof in Tyrol Provides Water for Hikers

The Hotel Weihrerhof is located directly at the Wolfsgruben Lake on the Ritten in South Tyrol. The bathing lake is located at 1,200 meters and is now a huge skating rink in winter. Apart from ice skating in winter and swimming in summer, the region is especially popular for hiking.

On their tours, non-hotel guests can also find the Weihrerhof via the Refill app to fill up on drinking water for the road. The hotel's own guests also have stainless steel bottles at their disposal, which are sustainably produced by the local company Doraplast.

Lifestylehotel SAND Cooperates with “Stop the water while using me”

At the Adults-Only Lifestyle Hotel SAND on the Baltic Sea, the natural cosmetics line "Stop the water while using me" was chosen a long time ago. Here, not only is there a call to stop wasting water directly on the product packaging, but they also support well construction projects all over the world. By the way, the HUBERTUS Mountain Refugio in Allgäu also supports this project.
